TOOL & GUITAR HERO

A few minutes ago I found out from the band's management that we're now cleared to announce TOOL's participation with GUITAR HERO. Here's part of the press release:

"Hugely popular alternative metal band Tool, known for their epic, intense musical arrangements and killer visual arts, will also soon be known for their contribution to the upcoming Guitar Hero® World Tour. Guitar Hero fans from all over the world will be able to rock out to "Parabola" and Grammy-award winning "Schism" from Tool's critically-acclaimed 2001 album Lateralus in addition to "Vicarious" from their 2006 Grammy-award winning album 10,000 Days. The game will also feature an all-new venue designed in collaboration with the band and highlighting the art style that has become a staple in their music videos, live shows and album artwork."

Koji će im ovo krasni ..... ?

Dobro, mogu tako da privuku nove fanove....

E da jel' moze neko od moderatora da objasni sto je ova tema ovde? Ako su Porcupine Tree na progressive temi onda ja mislim da i TOOL moze slobodno da bude na istoj.

Feersum Ennjin is the work of essentially one man with the assistance of a few close friends. All the songs were written by former Tool bassist Paul D'Amour, who has been floating around from project to project since his departure in late 1995. But before you Tool fans get too excited, it is my duty to inform you that the material heard on this EP shares more in common with D'Amour's work in Lusk and Replicants than it does with Tool.

The key to successful album is a great opening track. If you can't catch the audience's attention with that first one, you've failed. That being said, "Lines" is a fantastic opening cut. It begins with on-the-move basslines accentuated with hard hitting drumming. Handling the duties behind the kit is Self mastermind Matt Mahaffey. As the song continues to develop, D'Amour's harmonious vocals flow with the groove of the song, while the chorus features a group of voices quite reminiscent of 80's new-wave. Combine all these elements and you end up with a sound similar to that of 30 Seconds to Mars.

Feersum Ennjin slow the pace down a tad on the next two tracks. "Solid Gold" brings to mind Failure, with its spacey and intricate guitar melodies. On "U-Boats," D'Amour focuses on electronic experimentation, using vocal effects as well as the interjection of a piano. The experience is perfected with a guitar solo from Korel Tunador as the sludgy basslines push the song towards into its climax. There are so many layers to this track, almost as much texturing as there is on a Pink Floyd disc.

The song that contains the extension of Tool circa D'Amour's departure is "Dragons." The guitar tone fits perfectly with that of Undertow. More particularly, the ending sequence faintly resembles the later portion of Tool's "Flood." Coincidently, that is my favorite Tool song. D'Amour brings the album to a close with the electronic heavy "Thin Air," which is essentially an experimental soundscape of various synths and effect-laden guitars overlaid. It's a nice ambient piece and a great way to bring things full circle.

Obviously, Feersum Ennjin is not a vehicle to return D'Amour to the forefront of alternative music, though I doubt that it was his intention when he was writing these songs. In fact it is quite irrelevant. No matter the intentions, D'Amour and Mahaffey have comprised a striking debut that fans of spacey-rock and early industrial-alternative crossovers will enjoy.

Aidin Vaziri of the San Francisco Chronicle recently conducted an interview with Maynard James Keenan, frontman for TOOL and A PERFECT CIRCLE and a wine connoisseur.

San Francisco Chronicle: Didn't you plan A PERFECT CIRCLE's last tour around various wine regions?

Maynard: No. But if we would go to a particular area, I would go a few days early to explore the region. I was on the road for a decade accidentally experiencing things. I was planning on making the wines long before I knew anything about what I was doing. But I ran into Eric Glomski, a guy that took me under his wing, and he's been my mentor.

San Francisco Chronicle: What kind of people show up to these Whole Food signings?

Maynard: Generally music fans, and they've been very well behaved, for the most part. They're coming for one reason, but then they actually come back for the right reasons. The first run-through, we had a lot of people there because they're music fans, but then they would come back because they had genuine questions about the wine and pairings.

San Francisco Chronicle: Don't you have an image as a satanic weirdo to maintain?

Maynard: TOOL is not SLAYER. I went to art school. I spent three years in the military. There's more to me than throwing devil horns. :D

San Francisco Chronicle: So what makes your wines different than a jug of Gallo?

Maynard: We're in an area that hasn't been pioneered in winemaking. If you want consistency, go with Gallo. It's just going to taste like that. We want the wine to taste where it's from, a particular spot on the earth. That's the idea behind boutique wine making. This particular way the weather is, the way the soil feels. Every year should taste different.

San Francisco Chronicle: Do you still have time to make music between irrigating fields and stomping grapes?

Maynard: I'm still making music. We just put tickets on sale for a pair of shows PUSCIFER is doing in Las Vegas. Oddly enough, in my own mind, it kind of goes hand in hand with the winery, with what we're doing in a local area. We can work around harvest and winemaker dinners and pop out to do this fun show that could be a disaster or it could be awesome. It's the same as picking grapes.
