After their great shows last year the core of Cynic (Paul M. and Sean R.) started recording some demo songs. Amongst these is ‘Evolutionary Sleeper' that had it's debut on the European shores. With some questions that seemed to be interesting I caught up with Paul for a short update about the new album and some other stuff.

Here's the shorted transcription of the questionnaire:

Will there be brutal vocals on the album?

There will be growls used colorfully for dynamic purposes on the new record. Actually on the demo and for live Sean and I are working with Tymon (from the Netherlands). He's an old contact and already knows all the Focus songs on guitar too. He has a great growl also. So we will remain a four piece but with Tymon as the live growler/guitarist.

There have been talks about a Focus-DVD for some time now. Will it ever evolve to a release?

Yes! We're working with some video people now and planning on having the 'Focus' DVD finished around the time the new record is released.

Are Jason G. and Sean M. involved in the revived Cynic, or are they too occupied with their own projects?

Obviously Jason is not involved, he's a full-time family/business man, and Sean M is not involved either. We had a couple different local friends play on the demo and will decide on one of them for the record. Both amazing players. I've pretty much written the entire record and worked out all the arrangements and details with Sean R.. We'll bring Tymon in for some extra guitar stuff along with the growls for the album recording. He seems born and raised for the Cynic gig and keep the bass player position flexible for now.

Last year we also talked about a possible release of the old (pre-Focus) demo's. Are you still entangled in the legal side there? As was the case with the Portal demo.

We've talked to a few different people about possibly releasing the demos. It's still up in the air, but could happen around the new album release or later. The Portal also is kind of on hold. The masters unfortunately belong to Roadrunner and we (still) have to work out the business side with them before it get's officially released.

Any news about a possible record label for the new album?

We trust Cynic will find a good home for the new album.

More news will follow when the time is ripe...

Reunited progressive metallers CYNIC, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, have inked a worldwide deal with France's Season of Mist Records. The band is set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy-award winning producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA) to begin work on its long-awaited follow-up to "Focus". The CD will contain eight songs, and the band is working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus"). A late 2008 release is expected, to be supported by additional live shows soon to be announced.

ово звучи супер...дај Боже да песме буду екстра квалитета...

ако превазиђу Фокус, свака им част... ....

ако буде лошији од претходног онда боље да не издају тај албум уопште....
