Qui - Love's Miracle

http://rapidshare.com/files/48121005/qui_-...e_s_miracle.zip

Qui was founded in 2000 by drummer/vocalist Paul Christensen and guitarist/vocalist Matt Cronk in Los Angeles, CA. Since debuting in LA in early 2001 and the release of their first full-length album, Baby Kisses, (Heart of a Champion) in 2003, they have maintained a prodigious pace of both local performances and national tours. Their idiosyncratic blend of punk, noise, metal and experimental genres, coupled with their advanced musical prowess, earned them a small but dedicated following throughout the U.S.

In late 2006, Qui was joined by vocalist David Yow of The Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid fame. Shortly thereafter, the trio released the single, "Today, Gestation" b/w "Freeze" on the Los Angeles-based Infrasonic Sound Recordings label. After a brief spring tour and two acclaimed performances at the South By Southwest music conference in Austin, TX, Qui partnered up with Mike Patton and Greg Werckman's Ipecac Recordings for their forthcoming full-length entitled Love's Miracle, scheduled for release on September 11, 2007. A full U.S. and European tour will immediately follow. Strap on your fucking knee pads.

P.S.Qui kod nas u martu pa ko voli nek izvoli.mjetal.

Steven R. Smith - Owl

(Digitalis)

It's a wonderful occasion when a package from Digitalis finds its way into my mailbox. It's an even grander occasion when it happens to house the latest from their Arts & Crafts series, which does the music justice by bringing it to us in exquisitely crafted packaging.

But as nice as the outer shell for Owl may appear, it's the haunting music contained within the plastic disc inside that drives the adventurous series. The cover art, a blue and white photo of a forest's canopy, does more to explain Smith's solo foray than any of my words will.

Anyone who's familiar with Smith's work will gravitate towards Owl as it offers something different from his solo and group work yet it's very comforting and inviting. The music itself is relatively cold and jagged, transforming Smith's guitar explorations into blistering winter winds, but being blasted with a face of cold air is a reawakening brought to you by Jack Frost--and anyone that has endured the real heart of winter (away from warmth of the sun and daylight) will find solace with Owl.

I can't explain why anyone who's felt the harshest weather winter has to offer would want to seek refuge in Owl's musical mirror but perhaps it's some twisted form of Stockholm Syndrome. When you've felt cold's embrace, there's something warming about it. Though the bitter chill may be too much to handle, there's loving memories frozen within. We've all built snowmen, skated down icy streets, and enjoyed the speed of a sled with the wind blowing full-force in our face, and Owl somehow taps into that part of our psyche--finding the positives within the negatives. It's comforting drones, chilly melodies, and sparse arrangements aren't meant for warmer, less discerning ears; it's for those of us that have felt pain and needs the food for our hidden masochist. But within that ugly pain there is beauty; there is hope; there is Owl.
