Najbolji metal album 2010. godine

Učvršćivanje zvuka, pravi žestoki heavy metal sa duplom pedalom, melodije i rifovi nikad bolji, glas nikad moćniji i nikad puniji emocija...

Bane – Chaos, Darkness & Emptiness

Dobrokes me već napljuvao, znači valja:

30. THERION – Sitra ahra

Maybe this is a bit of letdown from „Gothic kabbalah“ which I consider to be the ultimate Therion album, but it is one good release nevertheless. The last part of trilogy consisting of "Lemuria" and "Sirius B" beside this one, "Sitra Ahra" marks Therion's return to their older sound circa "Deggial". Maybe it has one or two songs too much but I have nice fat digi to tide me over that fact.

29. HAIL OF BULLETS – On divine winds

Dutch supergroup continued their crusade of old school Death Metal wrapped around the war themes (or is it other way around?) successfully with this one. Slower than debut but heavier in that aspect, unmistakable Drunen’s vocals, cool songs... sure winner.

28. KVELERTAK – Kvelertak

I have discovered this band way prior to the release of their debut by announcement on some webzine, front cover done by that dude from Baroness whose name I alwas mix up with that Blaze Bailey looser made me nauseous but still I have checked out their myspace and from the get go I knew those boys are up to something. Soon thereafter promo from Indie came to assure me that Kvelertak is the next big thing and the world caught up with my opinion immediately. Topping all the lists with their ultra fun mixture of Punk, Black, Thrash and whatever they could lay their hands on, Kvelertak made one of the biggest breakthroughs of the year.

27. AGALLOCH – Marrow of the spirit

I still haven’t entirely wrap my head around this one: it is undeniably very good but I am still waiting „Marrow of the spirit“ to floor me entirely. But since every important magazine put them on highest position here they are – hey, I gotta be honest with you! No really, I feel that this one is a grower and I intent to test it in frostbitten woods of Banja soon so everything will come into its place.

26. AUDREY HORNE – Audrey Horne

Dudes from Enslaved and Gorgoroth playing highly infectious brand of alternative / Hard Rock made their best album with this one – it is filled to the brim with mega hits that are tailor made for singing out loud in front of the mirror when you are getting ready for the night of drunken debauchery. Fun as Hell.

25. ORPHANED LAND – The never ending way of OrwarriOR

It was impossible to top „Mabool“ for sure but this one comes damn close. More progressive than ever and backed up by Steven Wilson’s production wizardry, it is safe to say that this epic should be cut short of 3-4 songs which are just redundant but the rest of it is of highest quality. Oh yeah, I met the guys and saw their gig in Budapest where they presented themselves as much more metal so maybe it is their way to go in the future? We will see...

24. SHINING – Blackjazz

Meshuggah want quiet for some time so here we masochists got new stuff from Scandinavia to melt our brains to until new Mesh machinery comes. Title of the album says it all – this is bizarre mixture of Black Metal and Jazz played in mind dizzying way (that middle section of „The madness and the damage done“ always gives me epileptic attacks). I was a bit late to realize all the sonic fuckery of „Blackjazz“ but better late than never.

23. CONSECRATION - .avi

It’s not here beacuse I know some people from the band, not beacuse I want to give some pseudo support to domestic band, it is here beacuse „.avi“ is really, really good album and that’s a fact. Giving the majority of Post Metal bands a run for their money as far as I’m concerned, the only fault of Consecration is that they will hardly get the chance to present themselves on the broader scale but those in the know will enjoy „.avi“ immensely...

22. DEFTONES – Diamond eyes

I have stopped following Deftones around „White pony“ so „Diamond eys“ came as one of the biggest surprises in this year for me. Bold and adventurous songwriting, Meshuggah-inspired riffing, Chino sounding better than ever (as far as I can tell, anyway)... this one made me fan once again.

21. ALCEST - Écailles de Lune

Neige has done it again, and while “Souvenirs d’un Autre Monde” was lighter sounding and invented the term "shoegaze BM" single-handedly some years ago, this one is debut's darker twin. The overall feeling is far more morose and bleak but the common denominator of those two albums is highest possible quality.

20. DEATHSPELL OMEGA – Paracletus

One of the most hyped releases of the year for sure, „Paracletus“ marks the end of the trilogy and it was met by rapturous response all over. Their fanboys and pseudointellectual bullshit they verbally masturbate ad nauseam on the single metion of DsO’s name put me off a bit from this band in general but there is no denying that this is one killer release, dissonantly distubing and unpredictable to the very core.

19. WHILE HEAVEN WEPT - Triumph:tragedy:transcendence - Live at the Hammer of doom

Yep, it is live album but I was listening to it like mad last couple of months so it is just fair to put it here. This album made me rabid fan of While Heaven Wept's prog doom majesty once again as I kinda went over ther „Vast oceans lachrymose“ but the performance on display forced me to revisit all their albums and to re-discover their glory in full. "Triumph:tragedy:transcendence" is already ranked among some of the best live releases ever in my book – yes, it is that good.

18. FIREWIND – Days of defiance

Maybe „Days of defiance“ is a letdown from their previous album „The premonition“ but it suits me just fine with its Power Heavy metal devoid of cheese (of course, not in its entirety), sticky refrains and fretboard wizardry of mr Gus G, it will be pity if he abandons this band in favour of his new gig with Prince of Dorkness. Oh yeah, and I was using „Days of Defiance“ as elan-raiser for weeks to get me in the proper mood so I could forget the mega boring work I was doing at the time so extra points there.

17. IMMOLATION – Majesty and decay

Death Metal the way it should be done – dark, aggressive, twisted and evil. Maybe this is not the Immolation’s finest hour but in any given moment they are better than 99 % of the fags who dare to call themselves DM.

16. SLOUGH FEG – The animal spirits

Die hard Serbian SF fans (all three of them) told me that this is one of the weaker band’s album but I feel opposite, truth be told. Slough Feg concentrated more on catchy songs than to fill their stuff with tons of riffs this time and the result is one timeless Heavy Metal record, just a reminder why HM is such a cool genre. The best traditional band you can get, probably.

15. ENFORCER – Diamonds

While we’re at it, I need to mention one more top Heavy Metal band of today. More retro than Slough Feg and more anthemic and party-like in that process, „Diamonds“ is one jewel (or should I say „diamond“) for all those nostalgic fuckers among you who still think that wearing tight jeans and denim vests is socially acceptable. Track „Katana“ makes me want to squeeze my fat butt in nearest leather pants and to grow my hair incredibly long (if only that was possible and I wouldn't now come out looking like Heavy Devy sans musical genius).

14. KEEP OF KALESSIN – Reptilian

Third winner in the row for these Eurovision Black Metallers, „Reptilian“ is maybe their most epic work so far which is saying a lot. Let’s see will they finally reach the popularity they strive for and stop to be eternal opening band, so if you want commercial melodic BM, forget new Dimmu and take „Reptilian“ instead.

13. DECREPIT BIRTH – Polarity

I have to admit that „Polarity“ sounded like a bunch of regurgitated Death riffs to me at first but after a couple of listening I have grasped the full picture. In this time so devoid of cool Technical Death bands and keeping in mind lacklustre Atheist comeback record, "Polarity" comes as true breath of fresh air. The best Decrepit Birth work up to date, without a doubt.

12. IHSAHN – After

Yes, my nipples still go extremely hard on sole thought of Emperor but I wasn’t blindly taking what was given after their break up. For example, this year’s new work of Samoth entitled The Wrteched End was average in my opinion (to say the least) but on the other hand, mr Vegard continued to keep the highest quality of his solo work intact. Saxophone of all other instruments was infused in the blackish prog madness, so all those who left out "After" out of sight a bit (since it was released at the very beginning of the year) should take note and go back to this one pronto.

11. RHAPSODY OF FIRE - The frozen tears of angels

Rhapsody is childish, their thematic are only for geeks, power metal is gay... I know, I know what you are thinking. Well, go fuck yourself in that case. Rhapsody are finally back in full force after that Manowar affair with an album full of killer soundtracks for womanless nights of playing Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and with another album on the horizon very soon, I will just raise my battle axe in sheer happiness.

10. GHOST – Opus eponymous

As one friend so aptly put it, this is album tailor made for hipster metalheads. The band is new so you will not be accused that you are listening to some prehistoric fossiles („Iron Maiden should split up“ mantra is mandatory, keep that in mind) but the style is old enough so you could consider yourself true. But nevertheless, this satanic Rock Heavy is just great in its own right, and anyone invoking King Diamond vibes gets fuckin’ A in my book. Debut of the year along with...

09. LES DISCRETS - Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées

This is so good. These French group is not doing anything groundbreaking but their shoegaze / post rock / BM filled to the brim with beautiful emotions carries certain je ne sais quai that elevates them above the rest, if you don’t like “Song for mountains” you are just an animal devoid of any kind of emotions and that is a fact. And yeah, the best front cover of 2010.

08. GOD DETHRONED – Under the sign of the iron cross

How do you follow epic „Passiondale“? Simply, make the album that is way more epic and brutal at the same time, pack everything in 34 minutes and there it is – the best DM album of the year for me. Time will tell, but I would maybe call this one also the best GD album ever.

07. CRADLE OF FILTH – Darkly, darkly, venus aversa

The last nail in the coffin of my credibility that was almost sealed with that Rhapsody speech, but I must admit that I am die hard fan of British vampires. This album reinvents their career almost to the level of immortal „Cruelty“ / „Midian“ days, making very good predecessor „Godspeed on the devil’s thunder“ just an appertizer for this symphonic beast.

06. OVERKILL – Ironbound

Comeback of the year? Well, not quite since Overkill never split up but they were living on the borrowed time for decades churning one sub par release after another. This makes the effect of „Ironbound“ even stronger when it came out of nowhere and reinvents the band so strong that it reminded everyone on their finest hours. Forget new retro posers, hear how it should be really done straight from the fathers!

05. THE OCEAN – Heliocentric / Anthropocentric

These two albums make one whole anyway so they will occupy one spot, I am lacking in that as it is... Giving „Load“ / „Reload“ and „Use your illusion“ I and II run for their money in the double album department, The Ocean reached the highest point of their career with these two babies. The fact that I saw their devastating gig in June for sure helped to strenghten my love for this troop.

04. DARKTHRONE – Circle the wagons

It’s official – Darkthrone can do no wrong. Now that all „cult“ Black Metal faggots have successfully fucked off from them seeing that the band has no intention to make another „Under the funeral moon“, we can happily enjoy in exploration of Metal’s history in Fenriz and Nocturno’s way. Professors are back, so bow down and worship.

03. BURZUM – Belus

Words cannot describe the hype surrounding this name for years now so I will go straight to the point: „Belus“ is amazing. This is one of the best comebacks ever, since Varg continued just where he left with „Filozofem“ effortlessly and the fact that dude is brain dead moron doesn’t take away an inch of musical genius that he has.

02. NACHTMYSTIUM – Addicts – Black Meddle part II

The fact that Blake puts the style he is fascinated in the very moment through his system and come out with something of his own fascinates me to no end. Continuation of „Assassins“ turned out to be every bit good as its predecessor making Nachtmystium one of the ultimate forces in Metal right now. Jump on their board right now when they are still cool.

1. ENSLAVED – Axioma ethica odini / ROTTING CHRIST – Aealo

Well, well... I simply couldn’t decide which one is better and since I love both of these albums to no end I figured out to put them both on the top so this is probably the first and the last time I have done it but nevermind...

Enslaved continues down their path of masterpieces with their latest installment, are they putting Black in Prog or vice versa? Who knows but one thing is for sure – this band is in terms of originality and songwriting leagues above the pack, they have made the world of their own and now they are simply strolling through it and showing us its beauties while other wannabes cannot reach the very door of it. „Giants“, „Lightening“, „Ethica Odini“... no, every song is just perfect.

Rotting Christ on the other hand infused larger dose of their native Folk Music into their own brand of Dark Metal making also one unique jewel. On the scene where Folk Metal is equal to Korpiklaani joke, RC stands as reminder that everything is not lost and as a true monument of visionary band which never falls under the highest standards.

10. AVANTASIA - THE WICKED SYPMHONY/ANGEL OF BABYLON

9. GAMMA RAY - TO THE METAL

8. BLIND GUARDIAN - AT THE EDGE OF TIME

Dobar album Guardiana, prijatno iznenađenje u odnosu na neke prethodne radove. Kvalitetne i zanimljive kompozicije, fino uklopljene u celinu, a meni su se najviše dopale Ride into Obsession i Cry for Tanelorn.

7. STEELWING - LORD OF THE WASTELAND

6. RAGE - STRINGS TO A WEB

5. INNERWISH - NO TURNING BACK

To izbija iz svih pesama na ovom albumu - moćne uvodne The Signs of Our Lives, hiperbrze Last Breath, epskih Welcome to My World i Sirens, te zarazne Lawmaker.

4. IRON MAIDEN - THE FINAL FRONTIER

Mother of Mercy, kako je to jaka pesma, puna emocija, melodije i žestine! To samo Maideni mogu. Pa Coming Home i The Alchemist, hitovi u najboljem maniru 80-tih. Pa dugačke, a jake pesme poput Starblind, The Talisman... Pravi album za krunu karijere.

3. HALFORD - MADE OF METAL

Kakvu bombu je matorac izbacio! Idealnu pred najavljeno penzionisanje.

2. ACCEPT - BLOOD OF THE NATIONS

Beat the Bastards, Bucket Full of Hate, sablasna Shades of Death, uzbudljiva The Abyss, rokačine Locked and Loaded i No Shelter, možda balada Kill the Pain, možda zarazna Pandemic, možda bonus Time Machine...?

1. BLAZE BAYLEY - PROMISE AND TERROR

Takođe vrlo prijatno iznenađenje. I dalje su mi ovaj i Accept-ov album podjednako dragi, sad zašto stavljam Blaze-a ispred... Verovatno zbog toga što me ponesu emocije, kad slušam poslednje 4 pesme posvećene smrti njegove žene, ili epsku City of Bones o opsadi Lenjingrada, ili zato što se prepoznajem u Faceless (jebeš čoveka koga niko ne mrzi). Možda me je kupila na prvo slušanje Watching the Night Sky, možda puna lepih prelaza God of Speed?

Očekujem nastavak trenda i još dosta jakih heavy albuma u narednoj deceniji.
