Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh), the BURZUM mastermind who was convicted of murdering MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) in August 1993 and setting fire to three churches, has issued the following update:

 

"Asyou might already know, my dear ladies and gentlemen, and othersindividuals too, I am no friend of the modern so-called black metalculture. It is a tasteless, low-brow parody of Norwegian so-calledblack metal anno 1991-1992, and if it was up to me, it would meet itsdishonourable end as soon as possible. However, rather than abandon myown music, only because others have soiled its name by claiming to havesomething in common with it, I will stick to it. The 'black metallers'will probably continue to 'get loaded,' 'get high,' and in all othermanners too behave like the stereotypical Negro; they will probablycontinue to get foreign tribal tattoos, dress, walk, talk, look and actlike homosexuals, and so forth. Some of the 'black metallers,' theirfans and accomplices will probably even continue to pretend — andactually believe — they have something in common with BURZUM,but let me assure you; they don't! I play what can be described as somesort of metal music, all right, and they do too, but the similaritiesends there. Freud wrote books. Tolkien wrote books. The similaritiesends there.

 

"Why more of BURZUM? Well, I am what I am;a musician. Musicians produce music, when they can, and now I can; I amno longer imprisoned by the criminal anti-Norwegian regime in Norway.Will my music be any good? My guess is that if you like BURZUM you like BURZUM.If you don't, you don't. I do try to change all the time, but most ofthe time I fail, and many appreciate that. Others don't.

 

"The coming album is called 'Den Hvite Guden' (The White God) and is a musical and lyrical description of the the White God (alias Apollon, Baldr, Belenus, Belus, Bragi, Byelobog, Jarilo,et cetera) and the annual events of his life. I describe the stories ofthe myths like they could have been before they were myths, bypresenting to you bits and pieces of the sorcery and religion ofancient Europe (more elaborately described in my unpublished book 'Trolldom og Religion i Oldtidens Skandinavia'[sorcery and Religion in Ancient Scandinavia]). It is not intended forplay the 'low-brow metal' style, but instead I imagine a listenerwilling to sit down, ideally in solitude, and think for a minute, aboutthe White God and our forebears, whether they were Picto-British,Finnish, Gallic, Greek, Roman, Scandinavian, Scytho-Slavic,Daco-Thrakian or whatever, and about their magnificent, intelligent,positive, beautiful, healthy and strong culture. I try to help youcreate an image of this with the help of your own mind, by offering afew clues and guidelines. The album is political only in the way thatit offers an alternative to the depravity offered to us by theintrusive popular culture and the commercial entertainment industry —and by modern so-called black metal, for that sake.

 

"The début album was intentionally anti-commercial and anti-death metal, the 'Det Som Engang Var' album was experimental, the 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss' album was intentionally monotonous and ritual, the 'Filosofem' album was intentionally different from the others, 'Dauði Baldrs' was what I could do from a prison cell, and 'Hliðskjálf' too, but they were all music that I liked. 'Den Hvite Guden'will be no different in that respect, but I am older now, in fact twiceas old as I was when I recorded the début album, and I am thereforedifferent. The new album might differ from the old albums more thansome might appreciate, but I hope not. Even if some of you mightappreciate the old BURZUM, I must be allowed to evolve, just like everybody else. Maybe you will like the new BURZUMtoo. I will not do my best to copy and reproduce my old music, just toplease somebody. I never did and I never will. If it sounds similar itis because it is made by the same person. If it sounds different it isbecause it is not the same music and because I have evolved.

 

"I can add that just like on the other metal albums (with the exception of 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss'), 'Den Hvite Guden' features some very old BURZUM tracks. 'Filosofem' featured the 'Burzum' track, from 1991, and 'Den Hvite Guden' will feature the 'Uruk-Hai'track, from 1988-1989, although the title and the lyrics have beenchanged to fit the new concept. It will also feature the original 'Dauði Baldrs'metal track, from 1993. In a sense this album too will not be 'newmaterial,' but just a collection of previously unpublished tracks; somenew, some old. If some think my composing skills have disappearedaltogether, then at least there will be some gems for them too.

 

"You can expect to see 'The White God' around March-April (anno 2010), when he traditionally returns from the hidden world of shadows."

 

Although his parole application was denied four times — most recently in September 2008 — Vikernesreceived word in February that he would be released after servingalmost 16 years in prison. He was finally allowed to leave this pastspring.

 

Vikernes currently resides in Bø, a municipality in the county of Telemark, Norway. Vargpurchased the farm sometime last year and lives on the property withhis French wife (whom he met while he was incarcerated) and son.

Bash je napljuvao black metalce i kako on kaze "modern so-called black metalculture". Kaze da ce novi album zvuchati drugcije od svih njegovih prehodnih, interesantno. Cool stvar je ta sto stvarno ne znamo kako ce zvuchati Burzum u 21om veku, sta god da izbaci bice iznenadjenje.

Ovaj Varg je oduvjek bio penal. A Burzum sam batalio da slusam posle Filozofem, posle njega to vise nije to. Jebali ga bijeli bogovi...

Glupo razmisljanje, ako ti se dopao Filosofem onda treba zeljno da ocekujesh novi, jel album nece lichiti ni malo na poslednja dva Burzuma. A i svi mi znamo zashto su poslednja dva zvuchala, kako su zvuchala. Novi album treba da nastavi tamo gde je Filosofem stao.

Sta da ti objasnim? Sta ti ne treba? Burzum intervjui? Pa ako je tako, nemoj ni da ih citash. Ili je nesto drugo u pitanju, konfuzan ti je post iznad. Ako ti se ne dopada Vargov stav, on moze tebi isto to da kaze, "Kome se ne svidja moje razmisljanje, moze slobodno da odjebe", a pritom Varg je uvek bio takav. Ali to nikako nemoze da ima uticaja na muziku, stav koji pisac ima moze da ima veliki uticaj na lyrics, ali na samu muziku nikako. To ce sigurno biti black metal, samo josh nismo sigurni kakav. A i kada bi smo tako gledali 50% metal muzike ne bi smo slusali, zato sto bend ima debilan stav. Glupo mi je sada da sa vremena na vreme ne okrenem Rust in Peace, zato sto je mainman idiot, ili ono necu da slusam Immolation zato sto su eskivirali Srbiju..... ipak je muzika koju oni prave najvaznija.

Sta ti onda smeta kod Varga? Posto bacash hejt na njega, mora da ti smeta njegov stav ili pak nehsto drugo(posto osim "boli me kurac" , nema jacheg aduta u tvojim rechenicama). Kao sto i rekoh postovi su ti ili ne dovrseni ili konfuzni. A sam kazesh da posle Filozofema to nije to, a nista josh od pravog Burzuma mi nismo ni poslusali posle Filozofema. A i Varg je imao ovakav stav i dok je muziku pravio '93... Ja sam ono objasnjavao posto nisam siguran sta si ti hteo da kazesh sa tim rechenicama.

Smeta mi dosta toga kod Varga, al ne i muzika. Fino ti kazem da sam slusao sve zavrsno sa Filozofem, i tu sam stao. Ne svidjaju mi se albumi posle, a pitanje je na sto ce ovaj novi da lici nakon tolko godina zatvora i ispadanja sapuna. Bice sigurno neka gej muzika, no kladim se da ce to pronaci put do necijih srca...

I da, stvarno me boli kurac oce li Burzum izdati album ili ne. Ne znam sto je tu nejasno, mozda neumijemdapisempasestvarazabunauvezitogastosamustvarizaistahtiodakazem.
